Justin Simon, who is more commonly known as MacoIsWar is an American recording artist hailing from Columbia, South Carolina. Maco’s journey as a musician began back in 2017. Although only 13 years old, with an amateur-at-best recording setup, these early trap productions and R&B works showcased his talent as an artist and as a singer, a stark contrast to his soon to be present versatility, that would contribute to the gaining of his first real following. Fast forward to 2020, now age 15, Maco faced expulsion from his highschool and was sent to juvenille centers and almost permanently kicked out of school. He then realized in order to stay alive or stay out of jail, he had to shift his focus onto something a little more productive, his music. Maco made his return back to music in late 2020 a rapper, releasing tracks like “Gloccy Poppa” and “Patek Phillipe”. These releases quickly earned him a buzz in the underground South Carolina scene. He briefly rebranded as Lil Maco before settling on the name MacoIsWar, and then deleting all of his old music from all major streaming services. Thus, ripping away the amateur sound and allowing for a more profesional take. Maco expertly expresses his versatility through his extensive discography, From ambient songs, to his more hard trap songs, Maco is known for his high work ethic as well. He’d often be making 10 songs a day to having short burst of energy. Maco cites his biggest inspirations include the likes of Michael Jackson, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Baby, Chief Keef, 18Veno, and Comethazine.
